Holidays Bar & Rooftop
New York is blessed with rooftops galore for drinks and eating amid stupendous views. Given a felicitous location, even the second ground will do as at this sprawling new bar in Bushwick, Brooklyn, with the Manhattan skyline as its backdrop. Come September, the constructing beneath will probably be changed into an all-seasons restaurant; for now, there’s a bar on the rooftop, with a second coming quickly. (A 3rd will probably be positioned downstairs.) It has a tropical affect, with greenery, weathered wooden, inexperienced tiles, chessboard stone flooring and blue partitions. Drinks and meals are self-service, to order on the bar, with decisions like fried smashed fingerling potatoes with aioli and brava sauce, shrimp cocktail, fish and chips, and a broccoli rabe hero. Open to walk-ins beginning Thursday, this elegant French restaurant in SoHo can have the complete complement of meals and providers on July 27. The chief chef, Charles Lechantoux, is bringing his experience, acquired in France and in New York at Benoit, to a setting completed in tones of soppy blue and grey. His cooking is elegant, that includes dishes like sole meunière, artichokes à la barigoule, a seafood platter known as la grande tour, and flamed crêpes suzette. (Opens Thursday)

This intimate new West Village spot distills a household’s restaurant historical past. Many years in the past, Ferdinando Scarpati got here to New York from the island of Ponza, west of Naples, and opened Ferdi’s within the Bronx. His son, Guiseppe, was a chef on the Rainbow Room, and now Ferninando’s grandson, Fernando Scarpati, is opening this intimate spot along with his sister, Aida Scarpati. The modern Italian menu is in depth, and the restaurant’s identify pays homage to their grandfather.
